For light vehicles and small cars, rack and pinion steering systems usually provide sufficient handling performance and driving comfort. For heavy vehicles or large SUVs, power steering systems are particularly important. The weight and size of heavy vehicles make steering operations more difficult.

Recalling vehicles: Honda will recall Honda Civics produced between April 6, 2021 and August 17, 2023. Problem: Improper assembly of the Honda Civic's steering rack may cause the tire and/or tire chain to rub against the vehicle's lower suspension or tire rod end, resulting in tire damage.

HPS racks are more common in large vehicles and some high-performance models that focus on driving experience. These types of vehicles have high requirements for the durability, reliability and steering feel of the steering system, and the HPS system has obvious advantages in this regard.

When the rack and pinion are loose, the driver may feel that the steering wheel is abnormally loose. When the steering wheel is turned, the response of the vehicle becomes sluggish, and even more turning angles are required to cause the wheels to move.

The power steering rack is connected to the steering gear and steering wheel, and is responsible for converting the driver's steering instructions into actual steering actions of the wheels. Traditional mechanical steering requires a lot of force, while the power steering makes steering easier.
